Season 1 Nov 2001 - May 2002

September 2001 marked the return of The Ricky Gervais Show to XFM. Unfortunately the first few episodes are not in circulation, the earliest available recording being the 10th of November. Due to the success of The Office Ricky was important enough to now be given his own producer, one Karl Pilkington. Although originally employed as an off air producer Ricky and Steve quickly realised the potential of the round headed Manc and involved him more and more. By the end of series one Karl evolved from a background figure to virtually taking over.

Season 2 Aug 2002 - Aug 2003

Gervais and Merchant return after making the second series of The office. All three of them are also just back from the Edinburgh festival where Pilkington produced a radio show with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Karl is much more involved this series and it really should be called the “Karl Pilkington Show”. He comes up with numerous features including Monkey News, Knob News and Educating Ricky. This is by far the longest season featuring 51 shows. I haven’t included any episodes were Karl was absent due to being on yet another holiday or any best of compilations.

Season 3 Nov 2003 - Jan 2004

Series 3 consisted of just 12 shows, even so Pilkington still managed to miss one by going on yet another holiday and there was one best of compilation, I have not included either of these. Karl ended season 2 by saying he was giving up the shows but the XFM management bribed him to come back by giving him Mondays off, much to Gervais and Merchant's disgust.

Season 4 May 2005 - July 2005

This is the shortest season running for just six weeks, amazingly Pilkington doesn’t take a holiday during that time. The series ended with the last episode being cut short due to Ricky having to introduce REM at Live8.
