|
Episode Description
Karl makes a big impression playing the drums at an early age, unfortunately he doesn’t make such a good impression on the subject of Gremlins. Some posh lads get invited into the studio as part of their scavenger hunt.
Karl reveals the shocking news that there are some sparrows somewhere and he doesn’t want the weather to get warmer as this would mean deadly snakes arriving in the country?
It’s revealed that Karl never received his exam results and that they will be announced live on next weeks show. Bruce Lee faking his own death is discussed which allows us to hear for the first time Karl’s bizarre views on the Chinese.
Ricky: In the week I called Karl up, I said how are you mate and he went "not too bad", now as you know his girlfriend's been away for ages hasn't she, covering the World Cup, the African
Nations Cup, she's a sports journalist.
Karl: Uh yeah.
Steve: (laughs) I love the fact you're thinking, what does that mean right, well she's not much of a journalist Rick to be honest, I've read some of her stuff.
Karl: Yeah but she's not on air, she does stuff you know...
Steve: Behind the scenes, sure sure sure.
Ricky: A lot of journalists do, you want to make out that you're not going out with Kate Adie, that's what you want to make clear innit. Now, so she'd seen none of the meteoric rise
of Karl as a broadcaster, a raconteur, a wit, a cult figure to be honest, and he hadn't told her this. So, apparently he went home and she was sittin there feeling a bit grumpy
and he went "alright", she went "yeah", he said "shall we go out then", she went "I'm not sure I wanna go out with an idiot"
Steve: OH NO!
Ricky: She went "Loch Ness Monster, why don't you just think, of course the Loch Ness Monster lives in Loch Ness"
And she was giving him a bit of hard time, he said that's why I didn't tell her, same thing happened when I was at school and I had to play drums in Little Donkey, I didn't tell
me parents but me dad turned up anyway and what happened?
Steve: How old were you Karl?
Karl: Well it was the school that I used to go to...
Ricky: Oh yeah! Oh yeah, you used to go to the school you used to go to!
Karl: No but what I mean is, I didn't go to secondary did I, sort of missed a lot of that, but primary I liked, it was all colourin in and stuff, and erm it was the
christmas play and I managed to get a part in it, and I should've been playin the drums to the one about kings...
Steve: We Three Kings.
Karl: Yeah, I was meant to be doin that but Little Donkey came on...
Ricky: What do you mean came on?
Karl: That was like next up, you know the next song, and it's one o' them songs that you can't help sort of...
Steve: Tapping along to.
Karl: Yeah, d'you know like if I was to go (Karl taps out five notes on his desk)
Steve: Yeah, you'd have to finish it with (Steve taps out the final two notes)
Karl: Do you know that they actually send that into space.
Steve: Do they? What hoping that aliens will respond to that?
Karl: Yeah, they do do that, because apparently it is one of those things you can't help...
Steve: What even if you're an alien life form? They know that do they, what coz they've watched Star Trek or somethin?
Ricky: (laughs and mimics the first five notes) (in a deep alien voice does the final two notes) KNOCK KNOCK!
Karl: (laughs) No seriously.
Ricky: Who's there? (in a deep alien voice OGGIE OGGIE OGGIE!) Oh that is great, look (taps out the five notes then the final two) Hold on! There's something out there,
there's a little green fellow! That is great!
Karl: So anyway, Little Donkey is like one o' them tunes, and I was there and I had the drumstick and I thought oh god, I could feel myself...
Steve: Just wanting to do it, yeah.
Karl: I started going along and playin Little Donkey, which I wasn't meant to do but it went down such a storm...
Ricky: (laughs out loud)
Steve: What were there people like parents and that dozing off and then suddenly they heard your version of Little Donkey and they thought wait a minute now it's really picking up,
I'm glad I paid a pound fifty for this.
Ricky: (laughs) What do you mean it went down such a storm? Was it like when Ringo joined the Beatles and they were going boo Pete Best but he went (Ricky drums) and they went
Wow! Oh god!
Karl: What were the things in Gremlins?
Karl: I saw somethin in the news in the week about a load of sparrows or somethin are somewhere.
Ricky: (laughs) That's an interesting story.
Steve: (laughs) Was that front page? There's a load of sparrows somewhere. READ ALL ABOUT IT! SPARROWS SOMEWHERE!
