Karl: I was in the school team, I wasn't that good as a kid at football to be honest, mainly down to me dad because he wasn't into football and I think that's the way it works, if your dad's into it then you can be a footballer when you're older.
Steve: Yup.
Karl: And erm, so I was in the school team because I got on with the other lads, they let me in the team.
Steve: Popular guy yeah.
Karl: And erm, yeah I was stood there doin nothin coz I didn't really knew what to do, I never knew which way I was meant to be shootin, got all that messed up.
Ricky: Yeah, that is a pain.
Karl: I just stood there, with me hands behind me back, and somethin landed on this part of me thumb.
Ricky: You can't just point, it's radio.
Karl: It's this bit 'ere.
Ricky: The fleshy bit of the thumb.
Karl: And I thought oh what's that, and I looked down and it was a bee, it was a bee on me, so I start runnin tryin to get away from it and bees, actually somethin interestin about bees, more chance of gettin stung by a bee in windy weather than any other sort of weather.
Ricky: (laughs)
Steve: That's incredible.
Ricky: (laughs) And he said there was no more.
Steve: Extraordinary, I've already learnt many many things. You're being chased by the bee.
Karl: So I'm runnin...
Ricky: It's on your thumb, is it still on your thumb now?
Karl: It's sort of grippin on to me like a stag beetle.
Ricky: (laughs) Like a stag beetle!
Steve: Or a bee.
Karl: So I'm runnin, I'm runnin towards like the goal, oh god, and the ball comes to me, whallop, get it in.
Steve: Brilliant, what happened to the bee though, did it sting you?
Karl: They die don't they?
Steve: I mean ultimately it died sure, but at that particular moment did it sting you?
Ricky: I mean, this was probably about 20 years ago so I imagine...
Karl: No, no, no, once a bee stings you that's it.
Ricky: Yeah but did it sting you?
Karl: Yeah.
Steve: Right, that was the question.
Ricky: When did it sting you?
Karl: When I was playin football.
Ricky: (laughs)
Steve: Karl do you mind me asking, you say you were on the school football team, were there just 11 boys at your school?
Ricky: (laughs) Listen Karl, what I mean is at what point during this story did the bee sting you? Straight away or...
Karl: After half-time.
Ricky: (laughs) Oh he's the best.
